The Yellow Wallpaper Quotes About Madness

In  The Yellow Wallpaper, by  Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a short story, the narrator is isolated in her room, where shes forbidden from thinking, writing or reading. The heroine has been told shes unwell and that this isolation will be good for her. Unfortunately, it eventually leads to her loss of sanity. Gilmans tale is an allegory for how women werent taken seriously by the medical industry, which exacerbated their issues. Her heroines slow descent into madness is supposed to be reminiscent of how an oppressive society stifles  women. The yellow wallpaper which can be seen as a symbol for society continues to grow wild in the heroines imagination until shes trapped in a flowered prison. The story is popular in Womens Studies classes and considered to be one of the first Feminist  stories. Its a must-read for any lover of American or Feminist literature. Here are a few quotes from the story.   The Yellow Wallpaper Quotes The color is repellent, almost revolting: a smoldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper This wallpaper has a kind of subpattern in a different shade, a particularly irritating one, for you can only see it in certain lights, and not clearly then.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper Im getting really fond of the room in spite of the wallpaper. Perhaps because of the wallpaper.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper There are things in that wallpaper that nobody knows about but me, or ever will.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper You think you have mastered it, but just as you get well under way in following, it turns a back-somersault and there you are. It slaps you in the face, knocks you down, and tramples upon you.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper It becomes bars! The outside pattern, I mean, and the women behind it is as plain as can be. I didnt realize for a long time what the thing was that showed behind, that dim sub-pattern, but now I am quite sure it is a woman. By daylight, she is subdued, quiet. I fancy it is the pattern that keeps her so still.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper Through watching so much at night, when it changes so, I have finally found out. The front pattern does move-and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it!- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper For outside you have to creep on the ground, and everything is green instead of yellow. But here I can creep smoothly on the floor, and my shoulder just fits in that long smooch around the wall, so I cannot lose my way.- Charlotte Perkins Gilman, The Yellow Wallpaper

For that reason, it seems appropriate the color used to represent the Handmaids is red. Their job is to deliver a child for Commanders and their wives; therefore, the menstruation cycle has a strong meaning. Giving birth is another representation. Red could be associated with the bleeding and afterbirth that is part of childbirth. The mode of transportation to travel to the birth of a fellow Handmaid is the Birthmobile. The bench seats, curtains, and floor, as well as the Birthmobile itself, is red. The place where all of the of Handmaids are trained as potential breeders is named Red Center. That is where they are taught how to act and present themselves proudly. The Red Center is also where the Handmaids are told everything they cannot do anymore, such as read, because they are women. In todays society, we associate Red Light Districts with prostitution. Several examples in t he novel show how little the other women in the Republic think of the function of the Handmaids. A popular expression goes. â€Å"Marriage involves three rings: the battle ring. the nuptials ring. and the agony. †If it is normally felt that matrimony is so hard. why do most people wish to acquire married? Probably. the inherent aptitude to happen a mate is built-in in human existences ; and I am no exclusion. Somehow. I believe that there is person out there who was made specially for me. and. one time I find him. we will fall in love. and acquire married ; and merely so will I experience complete. So. how will I recognize my Mr Right? What qualities should I be looking for? First of all. I am non looking for â€Å"Mr Tall. Dark and Handsome† . Character is more of import than looks. I can non deny that I am attracted to fine-looking male childs. but get marrieding entirely for physical attractive force will likely take to short term pleasance but life-long sorrow. I have besides noticed that fine-looking male childs are frequently conceited and chesty. which I find most unattractive. One of the chief things that I admire in a adult male is humility. Such a adult male will non tout about his wealth. intelligence or accomplishments. but. alternatively appreciate other people’s abilities and accomplishments. He will besides readily admit when he has made a error. Such a adult male would be a joy to populate with. Good communicating is the cardinal to any solid relationship. most of all. matrimony. I would desire my future hubby to portion his ideas with me. I want to hear his dreams and to portion in his battles. On the other manus. I will besides necessitate person who will be ready to listen to me. and interested to cognize what is go oning in my life. There should be no secrets between us. Life is full of challenges. We can anticipate to confront failure every bit good as success ; grief every bit good as joy ; boredom every bit good as exhilaration. So. the perfect hubby should hold a positive attitude and a good sense of temper. He should be witty and say things which make me laugh. The perfect hubby would besides be one who can see the Ag liner behind every cloud. instead than concentrate on the defects in every state of affairs. With such a adult male. I will be encouraged to look at life in a happier and more positive manner. Above al l other qualities. the perfect hubby will be faithful. He must be person who truly believes in that matrimony is made to last â€Å"till decease do us part† . He will be wholly committed to our relationship. and willing to remain for the long draw. â€Å"in sickness and in wellness. for better or for worse† ; as twosomes promise in the nuptials vows. The perfect hubby would non be distracted by other adult females ; non even when I have lost my expressions. He would be a â€Å"one adult female man† . In return. I will besides assure my entire trueness and fidelity to my future hubby. Actually. there are many other qualities that make a adult male perfect hubby stuff. For illustration. one obvious quality would be the ability to supply ; and. though it is non the most of import quality. physical attractive force must be a portion of the equation for a matrimony to work good. However. while it is easy to do lists. happening a adult male to populate up to them will be really hard. Furthermore. alternatively of concentrating on my demands for the perfect hubby. I think I should recognize my ain imperfectnesss. and set about recti fying them. As Barnett Brickner said. â€Å"Success in matrimony does non come simply through happening the right mate. but through being the right mate. † I am allergic to honey. It gives me a concern. My future hubby has to cognize this. That will convey him one measure closer to being perfect. He must besides hold a caput of full of hair and be a pes taller than myself. That truly should non be a job. He besides needs to be fit and healthy with a spare organic structure as cogent evidence. He must besides be really successful at his calling whatever that may be every bit long as he is non policeman. a fireman. a attorney. an comptroller. a tooth doctor. a sawbones. a newsman. a top creative person or a graphics interior decorator. Anything else is all right. A salary with six figures per month undeniably brings him frontward to going perfect. He has to be a adult male who walks with assurance in his graceful work stoppage. A adult male who is certain of what he wants and will non halt walking until he gets it. He must hold the power of a coon bear. The ability to do people yield his want. Carry through his every caprice and illusion. He besides have spend more clip with me possibly go to trip during the weekend. Would a hubby be perfect if he leaves his married woman out of his life? No. he most surely would be non perfect. I besides to the full expect him to portion more inside informations of his life with me because it can do me closer with him. To be honest. I really do non care what my husband’s name is. I do non care if his acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene is rock hard. Equally long as he can salvage me from the lizard and spiders. he is the most powerful adult male on Earth to me. My heart’s desire is to hold his bosom and psyche. I hope my perfect future hubby will love me even if I do non hold slim thighs. can non cook and despite’s dressing up. He must accept me as what I am. For me as a adult females. I am truly want him to demo how much he loves me by the expression in his eyes and how patient he is with me even while I am call on the carpeting him.
